Has any one used WinME yet? If so do you know if it supports firewire? I use WinME right now, its almost exactly alike Win98, except it has some features like System Recovery, and a few of its icons look a lil diferent, and the windows explorer/my computer looks more like Win2k, but other than that, it seems exactly the same, some might argue its a bit more stable, microsoft claims it supports a tons more hardware. I noticed the reviews about ME as well, propaganda from what I have seen.<br><br>Karl, in your opinion is it better then win98se or should I stick with 98 till they perfect ME a bit more?<br><br>Also I read in a couple of posts that you use 2000, do you know if it supports firewire ports and digital devices? Or do you know of a good site that explains the ins and outs of 2000?<br><br>I am not much of a game player and I really want some stability from my O/S. I have linux and I use it quite a bit, but there are still things that I can do better with windows or linux simply doesn't support it. <br><br>I have an amd k6-2 400 with 128mb ram are there concerns that I should be watching out for to make sure everything will work with 2000? well with 2000 I didnt have hardly much problem, and to speak of stability, Win2k so far is the most stable release of any of there windows in my opinion, I hardly ever(if never in the timeframe) crashed when using it, games will perform somewhat slower depending(especially if you are using the NTFS file system) but other than that, it is a strong version of windows, what do you want to do with windows? maybe that'll help make a choice, as for 98, I stick with regular 98, not even SE. <p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.8m.com>kb244@kb244.8m.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>

Thanks for the advice. I mostly programm, use heavy duty engineering programs like mathematica and autocadd. I also capture movies from my camcorder through firewire. I use them now on my win98se system and there doesn't seem to be a problem. My only beef is that I have to reboot everyday becuase I leave my system on all the time. <br><br>I checked out the hardware compatibility list at MS and found all my equipment checked out for 2000. Well Win2k wouldnt be that hard of a move, also I have my system on all the time, I dont reboot more than once in 3 or 4 days time(or acidently if it locks up or crashes hehe) play mostly games and chat, used to be a big at home developer, but made more room for my games, depending on compatibility, I would say go with Win2k if its mostly developmental.
