Hello,

I ran across a gateway computer; pentium prior to mmx .
It has win 98 SE OS loaded. I installed office 97.
I was installing a modem (old one I had to take off the jumpers so it would pnp)and e-mail/web ISP software (juno) and I could get to the web for email but not for browsing. I needed to add the dial up networking under communications in the add/remove programs (second tab) windows setup. It prompted me to use the 98SE disks. I did. The files requested did not live on any of the disks and was not on the c drive. file names I recall as pppmac.vxd etc.

i don't want to copy file by file off a working system as that may be lengthy. Is there a download for this free somewhere?

thanks
PTT :)

Howdy:

Grab the file from another 98SE system and install it.. c:\windows\system

You shouldn't have any problems !!

Murray,

If it was just one you can bet I would have done it.

It's not one file. That file I listed was just an example in case someone new how many files would be needed to copy.

It's many. In fact I don't know how many? Do you? Cuz I was going to burn them on a cd pulling each file out manually; but I feared that it would be like 100's of files.

I figured it out. I have the answer.

I knew it would most likely be one of two places. Either it would be free from microsoft site or it would be on an updated disk from a isp. What I did was use an aol 8.0 disk, hoping this would provide com components for dial up networking previously specified. It did. Worked like a charm.

(I never use aol but in this case the disk was useful.) Good. All fixed and up and running.

Thank you kindly for your replies and attention,
take care.

SFC didn't work.
the components didn't live on the local computer. See above note for fix. :)

Its nice to hear of another useful application for AOL disks- I will add this one to my list
