I just built a new PC ( Win 98 SE , Celeron 900 MHZ , FSB = 100 Mhz , SRAM 133 MHZ) but experiencing some configuration problems. I used a hard drive from my previous PC with Win 98 SE and many other programs installed on it.

1) When I started the new PC, Win 98 SE detected new hardwares and required drivers . Somehows, Win 98 SE did not recognize my CD-Rom drive which is needed for installing drivers! ( i.e. when I clicked on "Browse..." in the dialogue box to locate the CR-Rom Drive, it was not listed ! ). I doubled check CD Rom drive installation and I was certain everything had been done correctly.

2) The CD-Rom drive was detected in the Bios Setup .

3) I even replaced the CD-Rom drive by another working one and the same results followed !

4) I also booted the PC by a win98 SE boot diskette to check if the CD-Rom drive was OK. It could read the Win 98 SE Setup CD Rom.

__Please advise how to fix this problem... Thank you

Hi
The CD drive may not be the cause of your problem.
The BUSMASTER installed in the earlier motherboard and the current one, may be creating the problem. Suuggest you remove the BUSMASTER IDE or IDE controllers.. momentarily this could crash your system, restart and see if this gets built automatically. Otherwise, you can update these drivers using the CD which came along with the new motherboard. This could solve your problem.
Also, for trial dont install BUSMASTER IDE f any for the CD drive atleast.

Hope this helps:) ramani :-9

Thank you, Ramani, for your expert advice which worked as you anticipated ! I got into Control Panel/system and deleted all entries related to the old mobo then restarted the system ! Voila`, Win98 SE built up the whole things and I then could installed all the new drivers with the CD-Rom Drive !

Thanks gain for your kindness and effective instructions !
