OK, I have been through just about every thread I can find and still looking for the definitive guide on mapping network drives from 98 clients to Win 2K Advanced Server.

Things that I have done:

WINS disabled on both client and server. DHCP disabled on Win 2k Advanced Server. Clients have Automatic IP addressing.

Internet is available through NAT from Win 98 clients through hub to Win 2K server (cable modem setup)

Able see both Win 98 client's drives and access them from Win 2K.

Win 98 clients can see each other and can access each others drives.

Active Directory setup and the domains are the same for the server and client (i.e. I am able to logon with the client computers - just cannot share the drives).

The "C" and "E" drives (C$ and E$) have sharing enabled - permissions cannot be changed as they are administrative.

As a side note, this is a Win 2K Adv. Server reinstall - had some problems that couldn't be overcome. The bottom line is that the sharing worked on the first install but now will not on the second install. Client settings have not been changed so something tells me that there are settings on the server that need adjustment.

My servers name is WILLIE and the domain is WALKINWILLIE and I try to connect on the client using \\WILLIE\C$ or \\WILLIE\E$ and it keeps asking for a password. I enter the network password for the WIN 98 client and it comes back telling me it is the wrong password.

Any help you smart folks could provide would be extremely welcome (I'm a web/database guy - seeing four sets of numbers separated by periods gives me the WILLIES - pun unfortunately intended!!!)

Thanks, William

Thought I would provide my current ipconfig /all setup
if that will help folks - Thanks in advance - Willie

William,
Here are some thoughts:
Is the Workgroup on the 98 client set to WALKINWILLIE?
Can you set up another share on the server and set permissions to everyone/full control and access that?
Is the Win2K server a DC? Does the client log into it?
Do you have a Win98 local login?

Yes, the domain on the WIN 98 client is WALKINWILLIE - I can login fine - just cannot access the drives on the WIN 2K server. Yes, the WIN 2000 server is a domain controller (WALKINWILLIE).Internet access via NAT works just fine.

Again, the WIN 2K can see and access the WIN 98 drives and the WIN 98 computers can see each other - and access each other.

The windows local and domain logins are the same.

Thanks for responding.

William

I still wonder if you can set up another share on the server and set permissions to everyone/full control and access that.

Sometimes permissions do get corrupted. You can try reapplying them. Also, don't forget you have to check both the Windows permissions and the share permissions.
