Im trying to network another 98 to a 2000 machine.I did it once, with a little help. This one is different.I installed the network card on the 98 pc.When I rebooted it said missing files vredir.vxd,dfs.vxd,(system.ini),I keep pressing space until it boots to dialog box:
Windows Networking
Unable to load dynamic link library
masp32.dll
system cannot find specified file
some or all of the feature is unavailable
Microsoft Network
OK
I click ok and it boots up normally,But there is not a network neighborhood anywhere. Is there someway to install just network neighborhood?Or do I have worse problems?
Thank you

Go to Control Panel->Network, remove "Client For MS Networks" and all protocols. Reboot and reinstall them. That should repair the files you mentioned...

I will try that. When you said "and all protocols"exactley what protocols.I am a little slow:)
Thank for your help

Now that I think about it, you might not have to remove each protocol (like TCP/IP, NetBEUI, etc). If I'm not mistaken, they should remove themselves when you remove "Client for MS Networks" since they're binded to each other.

The "adapters" can stay. You'll see what I'm talking about when you take a look.

MAKE A NOTE OF ALL ENTRIES IN THIS LIST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING

After rebooting, to reinstall you simply choose Add->Client, choose Microsoft as the manufacturer then "Client for MS Networks" on the right.

For the TCP/IP protocol, click Add->Protocol, Microsoft on the left, and TCP/IP on the right.

You may also need to reinstall File & Print Sharing which is a "Service". If you get stuck, don't hesitate to post back...

This behavior can occur if the Msnp32.dll file is missing, corrupted, or not registered.
To resolve this behavior, extract a new copy of the Msnp32.dll file from the Windows installation media.
thats it.
If the behavior continues after extracting the file, remove and reinstall the Client for Microsoft Networks using the Network tool in Control Panel.

And if that fails add remove programs remove windows components and remove networking. reboot and reinstall networking.

Worked perfect.uninstalled rebooted, reinstalled rebooted. No missing files and network neighborhood is back:)
Thanx allot

Got stuck with this problem after a bugbear virus removal today.
Start
Settings
Control Panel
Network
Add
Microsoft
Client for Microsoft Networks
reboot...
FIXED.
whoohoo...[lol]
This way you don't lose the dial up settings etc etc
The protocols don't have to come out.

Thought I would post this for everyone's future reference, including mine..
