Hi,

(tdatagod) Yes I was just doing the mistake you described.
So I went into the hosts file and edited it like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
100.0.0.173 demo1099cop1

Where 100.0.0.173 is the server machine.(Worked Ok)

The other quwestion I was about to do was depending on your response about the Win 98 being a client.
So here it goes:
I just installed the demo version on a third machine with the Win 98 OS.
The purpose of doing that is to test front-end tool MicroStrategy accessing Teradata tables.
The point is: When we were installing demo version on this Win98 machine, the only things allowed for installing were the Application Utilities.
Considering that scenario, I noticed that WINDDI of this Win98 client is working properly accessing the server in a correct way.
But on the other hand the BTEQ of this Win98 machine is not logging on the Server.
Do you have any clue about what is going on ?

Thanx a bunch.
Jorge.

P.S.: I´m sorry If I´m doing so many questions in so short time. That´s because we and my teammates have only untill October 23 to learn as much Teradata as we can just before enter in a very Huge and important DW project.
I apologyze for any inconvenience.

Hi,
WINDDI uses ODBC and BTEQ uses CLI. This implies ODBC utilities will work. CLI applications will not. LIke I said we never certified 98. Micro strategy uses ODBC so it should be able to connect like WINDDI does.

CLI uses the host file and the COP1 aliases to find the server.

ODBC uses the ODBC addministartion utility to set up the IP address.

Maybe the CLI didn't get setup properly. Have you checked the HOST file on your WIN 98 to make sure you have the

100.0.0.173 demo1099cop1 dbccop1

entry set up correctly.

Hi,
I was able to install the DEMO client code on my WIN 98 box and access my teradata system at work using BTEQ.

in c:\windows there is a file called

hosts.sam ( hosts sample file )

rename this file

hosts

and add your IP address of your teradata server....

100.0.0.173 demo1099cop1 dbccop1

to the file and you should be able to connect.

My connect takes almost a minute so there must be a time out in BTEQ which causes it to not prefer the host file but to use DNS first. I guess if I turn off DNS on my WIN 98 box it might logon faster.

BTEQ -- Enter your DBC/SQL request or BTEQ command:
sel * from dbc.dbcinfo;

sel * from dbc.dbcinfo;

*** Query completed. 2 rows found. 2 columns returned.
*** Total elapsed time was 5 seconds.

Hi,

I am always happy to help anyone implement a DW on Teradata. Would you mind if we took this discussion offline? Tek-Tips has a rule about selling and recruiting, and my suggestions are getting fairly close to what I consider borderline.

In addition, NCR has strict rules about what areas I can reveal about the product, and I would not want to run afoul of Teradata's Server and Client licensing rules.

I am programmer for Teradata, a division of NCR. Again, I would be happy to help you with this or direct you to our company experts who specialize in the finer points and sales info for the product.

please send me mail directly

tdatgod@aol.com

and we can continue this discussion.

Hi,
I stand corrected. I talked to our client applications teams and they informed me All of our Client applications, Bteq, CLI, ODBC, WINDDI whatever are certified with Win 95, 98. Forgot ask them about millenium. If any one tries it and it doesn't work let me know.
