I want to transfer some applications and files from old win 95 box to new win xp machine. My prolem is that it does not appear that any of the migration programs will support the data movement of an old DOS version software that we are still running on the win 95 box. Other than the fact that we should not still be running a DOS version of software, does anyone have a suggestion that will move all available software and data files?

The data files are easy but the programs will have to be reinstalled on the new OS. xp has a run as setup that will allow older software to run but you still need to install it.

Original software only on floppy and new box does not have an a: drive, any networking options?

Windows network with a computer that has a floppy and set it to share the A: drive.

You can buy a floppy drive for about $10. If it's going to be the only machine around I would still want a floppy drive. If you have a network you can share the floppy as suggested above.

Also, just be aware that some older programs will not run on FAST hardware. A typical result is a divide by zero error.

If these older apps are mission critical, then I would recommend that you maintain a separate machien running 95 withthose apps, and network it to your new XP box. Otherwise, you WILL run into some apps, expecially those written for DOS, that will not run on XP.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
