Hi,
I am attempting to install windows 98 SE by upgrading 95, i start the 98 cd and everything seems to work fine and dandy, but when i get to : "Setup is preparing the Windows 98 setup Wizard, which will..." the program quits responding once it reachs 100%. The little hour glass shows up the cd-rom quits and the hour glass just sits there spinning for hours upon hours. use Alt-Ctrl-del and Suwin shows up as not responding. Any thoughts upon this issue will be greatly appreciated
thank you,

Dont upgrade in windows. Boot from a boot floppy go to the cdrom and cd to win98
next type setup and hit enter. You will still be able to upgrade. You just wont have all the background applications running. See if this helps and let me know. James Collins

Hello, strokedGTA.

You have to turnoff all antivirus and goback software before doing an upgrade.

Check to see if your AntiVirus feature is enabled in your BIOS setup. This may be the problem when the installation is attempting to write over the FAT or system files.

Is it an "upgrade" CD or the "full" retail version CD?

Is it a genuine Microsoft CD or a burnt CD?

Did you clean the disk itself?

I only have hands on experience so here is my advice. You can install the upgrade without Win 95 on the system. Win 95 however, is only used for registration when installing Win 98 SE. You will always need a copy for this reason. Make sure to install it 'with CD ROM Support'. My personal preference was to remove Win 95 and start fresh. This is only a suggestion. There are different versions, I have three, both upgrade and full. Two copies are the same version but are not interchangeable when I'm replacing missing files on my system. Maybe the experts know why. You may have considered this and if you have disregard all of my comments. First time visitor.
