My friend has a tired PII 233 Dell from about 1997. It has a 4G HD in C/D partitions. Had 32 mb Ram. It had never been dusted out, scan/frag or anything. I did that and added a stick of old Ram up to 160. Then did Win 98 upgrade, but it seemed to be "missing" a few files during upgrade. Then the sound would not work on integrated funky sound card. So we reverted to Win 95 since I had backed up. Still no sound and can't find drivers. So....I reinstalled Win 95 on top of itself so I thought. Now, no sound and display only does 16 bit at 760 res. You can't read anything.
Should I: save her files to floppies and wipe HD and reinstall Win 98SE? Or save her files and just upgrade to Win 98SE? Thanks for advice!!

You say that you have integrated sound and I am thinking that you are also probably missing other motherboard driver files - ISA, PCI, etc.

Find out what kind of motherboard you have and go to the company's website to download the proper drivers and this should cure the problem.
Or you may even try Dell for a system restore CD or download.

May also try here to locate it:

Good luck
