Hey guys

It would appear our uncle billy has stumped me.
I have two questions about SMBS 2k3 for you.

1)I am looking for the directory that holds everything to
do with the intranet and company web. If i right click
on an image on the intranet and hit properties i get

I just can't seem to find this directory anywhere.
I've searched for the actual directory _layouts,
I've searched for homepage.gif and I find several
but none appear to be in the _layouts/images directory.
If you know the solution to my problem please help

2)I would also like to change the URL of the companyweb.
As you see above it is companyweb/blahblah/blah and I
would like it to be more like http://[companyname]
example: and by typing their company name they see their intranet.

Thanks for taking the time reading this ....

Have a great day

Not sure if I fully understand what your asking but I think what you're looking for will be located under c:\inetpub\ if your hosting your site locally...

You should be able to control this thru the internet services manager in the administrative tools...

Thanks karmic for the reply, but
i don't seem to be able to find any
files that deal with the intranet in
that directory, any other options/?

JustWakinUp,

You won't find the files you are looking for because they are contained within an MSDE or SQL database.

If you wish to rename the site, you can do that using IIS and DNS. Do the IIS part first, then make a new CNAME record in DNS that points to the FQDN of your server.

Be very careful when making modifications to your Sharepoint Windows Services site. Messing up the database will destroy the site or at least parts of it. (I am speaking from some hard learned experience). Your best tool for editing will be Frontpage 2003 as it is Sharpoint aware. Check the help file on your SBS server for information on backing up the SharePoint site. It isn't pretty (doubles the disk space of the site) but you should do it.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
