My issue is based on the fact that we haven't yet begun
using Active Directory. We have several Windows 2000
servers that we've added to to our NT 4 domain. Win 95/98
users have no problem connecting to shares using either
domain or local accounts.

My problem is that I cannot make a connection from a Win 2000 workstation to the Win2K server using a domain
account.
It will let me use a local account name to make a connection, however, this is not what I want.

Is there any way, short of implementing AD, that I can
make this connection?

Well since the Win2K Pro and the Win2K Server machines are not loging on to the doamin then they are not getting info required to log on locally. You will have to either set up accounts on the PC's or enable the guest account. Both are a real pain. Setting up accounts takes time and you would have to set up an account on every Win2K machine for every other Win2K machine. Enabling the guest account will give ALL access (although restricted) to the Win2K machine. James Collins

I AM able to login to domain accounts from the Win2K server. I can also access resources on the WIN2K server from a Win95/98 workstation. From a Win2K workstation I can only access resources from the Win2K server using accounts that are local to that server.

It seems that the Win2K workstation sends authentication info in such a way that the server can't match it to a domain account.

Are the workgroup names the same on the Pro machines ans the server? How about the TCP/IP setup? If you set up Sharing and share a folder, then right click on the folder and go to security and add EVERYONE and/OR USERS or GUESTS, does that make any difference? James Collins
