Hey there,

I have a weird problem. I have a Windows 2000 advanced server that I am using for a file server. It has service pack 4 installed. Every day or two, the network resources seem to be unusable, and very very slow. When I check the windows 2000 server, indeed everything is slow on it. I check the task list, and the CPU is at 100%, and the SYSTEM process is using most of that resource. Is there a way to break down what the SYSTEM process is actually doing? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the solution may be? This server has run fine up until a week or 2 ago.

Any advice appreciated.

I say you run a virus scan on this machine. Especially if it started happening a week or two ago. You know there are a bunch of viruses out there. I got hit with a couple on my network.

We are running norton anti virus, and it HAS picked up viruses from time to time, but being realtime, it did quarrantine them. We have done several system scans, as well as an online scan, and they have all come back clean.
