If DomainA exists on a Win2003 Server and Domain B exists on a W2K server, can the rendom.exe utility be used to rename DomainA to be DomainB?

At first I thought it might work, but after reading about it, I'm not sure as all of the examples were from a 1 domain environment and my situation is actually a 2 domain environment desiring to be a 1 domain.

Would it not be easier to make the Windows 2003 server a member server of Domain B and the promote to a Domain Controller

Each domain has a SID associated with it. The rendom utility preserves that identifier, so you would end up with 2 domains with the same name but each with a different SID, so they are still different domains.

rzs0502 gave the best suggestion. Move your box to the domain you want and use DCPROMO.

Suggestion: move the 2K box to the 2K3 domain since the 2K3 domain has the more advanced schema changes already present. You can always use your rename utility then if you don't like the name. Before you do the move, use ADMT to migrate all your machine accounts and user accounts over.
