win 2000 dial out

here's the situation, after loading 2000 for customers i use my on Lan/broadband to download all up dates and service packs . As 2000 auto negotiates the internet connection there is no tweeking of the connections...
I then instal the modem and set up the email for the customer but i find that the dial up connection does not connect to the internet after it has been installed.
it seems to be looking for the lan connection to connectwhy does this happen and what can i do to change the settings after installing the modem??? the onboard NIC has also been disabled in BIOS!!!

Are you saying that you cannot have a simple dial-up conection to the ISP?

right click my network places, properties. Remove the connection to your isp. create a new connection to your isp using your modem.
