Hi there,

I am trying to use the backup program for the first time.
I want to set up a test backup "job" which is scheduled to run 3:30 daily. The test job i defined ought to copy "myfile.txt" from a "bk_from" folder i've created to a "bk_to" file which I've created.
It seems that something is being copied over into the "bk_to" folder but it has a .bkf extension - when the file i want backed up is a text file?!
when i double click it the backup admin console is displyed instead of my data file - someone please help as i don't understand whats going on, and what i need to do to simply back up files at a given time each day..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Backup creates a backup, not a copy of your file to the location you specify with the .bkf extension. I bet if you tried to restore the .bkf file using the admin console and redirecting it to the bk_to folder you will find your mytext.txt.

The reason for this is that backup can handle multiple files, combining them in to 1 large backup file "bkf" Vince Grice

Hi Vince,

Thanks for the swift response!

I tried restoring to the "bk_to" folder and "mytext.txt" wasn't there. But your explanation does make sense - am I missing an extra step?

Thanks again,
Mark

I am not in fornt of a Win2K box right now, but there shouldn't be any extra steps. Check your logs to make sure the backup ran ok. Vince Grice
