I have a laptop (266Mhz and 128 RAM) running NTWS 4.0 and SP6a. When ever a DOS program, or a 16 bit program runs they error out and I get a message to terminate the WIN 16 subsystem. How do I fix the 16 bit subsystem? I have already re-service packed it - no go. Any ideas other than to re-install NTWS?

The config.nt is OK, I checked it. Any other ideas?

Try editing the config.nt to read:

device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
dos=high,umb
files=80
SHELL=%SystemRoot%\system32\command.com /e:2048

Thanks for the help. I added the last line to config.nt, but we still have the same problem. I have a feeling something is corrupt somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look.

You may have a corrupt command.com. Try replacing it with one from a similar machine or from an NT CD.

device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
dos=high,umb
files=80
SHELL=%SystemRoot%\system32\command.com /e:2048

Adding this did it, thanks. Tha laptop was one of my raod warriors and he finally sent in his PC for me to look at. This did do the trick. Thanks again.
