Trying to get the equivelant of both way hotline working involving an external number. Would a permanent call forward to an external number which is programmed as the remote destination in a HOT D key configuration allow both way hotline to be achieved? The external number already dials a defined number on the meridian via a ddi route.

Is using the call forward always making it more complicated, is there an alternative method which could be used to provide the same functionality?

The end user currently dials the external number using an speed dial, it would great to have dual functionality on the existing answer point (SCR key).

Thanks in advance.

Hot lines can be two-way.
Try this
key x hot d 11 9npanxxxxxx yyy 0

This example is for 10 digit local dialing.
11 is the number of digits in the hot DN
9 is the access code
npanxxxxx is the external number
yyy is a 3 digit internal DN for incoming calls.
0 is the CLID entry (optional)

For some strange reason I was thinking the terminating dn on a two way hotline couldn't be an external number!! [ponder]

I actually came up with a workaround that solved the issue using a phantom dn in the both way hotline configuration. The phantom dn was call forwarded to the external number. The one advantage using this workaround is that the outgoing call can have a name programmed against it for display on a digital phone.

I will be back on site by the end of the week, I will try the more obvious method to confirm it works.

You can still program a name in ld 95 on the internal DN. In fact that't the main reason we use the 2-way hotline - so we can assign a unique name for the security desk to identify the location.
