Hi everyone

I'm happy with my home setup - ADSL>Router>Wired and Wireless provision to PCs, and am considering setting up a hotspot for a friend who runs a bar/coffee shop. He wants to allow this (for a fee) for visitors whilst they are in the bar. I know that large organisations such as Starbucks have a similar facility but don't know what hardware and software may be needed. I've looked around and there are some services available but they seem to be available exclusively in the US - we are in the UK. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I'm also thinking of progressing the idea and having a wired internet facility (in separate premises), but realise that I'd have to get appropriate PCs and software licences as well as ensure that the hardware is secured physically.

A major concern that I have is hackers and illegal activity occurring through an internet connection which is registered in our names. I'd envisage having a firewall in the router and would support this with a software firewall, but how would I ensure that none of the visitors does anything which would attract the attention of the authorities? Of course, I'd need to ensure that the ISP is happy that I use their connection in this way.

Thank you for your patience.

Try to google "WPS uk" and see if you find anything.
When using WinXP you can set different rights to each user which, if done properly, should take care of your hacking problem. Microsoft has alot of info on the net about setting rights for users in WinXp.

WPS - (Wireless Provisioning Services)

Hopes this helps you on you way ;)

Thank you. I was unaware of the term "WPS" so that's a start!
