When i open task manager, it shows only the only the list of processes. The above tabs like applications, performance cannot be seen. I moved it around but still cannot see them. It looks like it's corrupted. I copied original file from the CD and expanded it and ran that file, still the same view. Looks like a virus corrupted it but dunno how to get it back to original. Also when i start an application like say internet explorer or Windows explorer, i click on the icon, nothing happens for about 25-30 secs and then the window opens up. I feel both the problems are linked but any face these problems? Any solutions would be helpful otherwise i feel i will have to backup data and reformat and reinstall (GROAN, too much data to backup), thanks

Ok, the taskmanager problem sounds a lot like the one I had a month ago.. I'll find you a link for the answer, but basically, it's right click on the edge (grey area) and unhide it..

thread616-743987 for the second problem, I'm not sure what to tell you..
You could try ad removal software, just in case you have 'spyware' on your computer..
Some links for you are (Ad-Aware 6.0) (for Spybot Search & Destroy).

Also, bcastner has posted some good informatin on CW Shredder and hijack.. Here is the FAQ that he did on posting a hijack log. It has some good links that you can use.. I'm sure bcastner, when he reads this forum, will be able to post all of the links that he did in another thread. (I couldn't find it, honestly).

Hope this helps.
Patrick.

thanks guys for the tiny footprint mode help, could have never imagined that. I have adaware installed for the 2nd problem but no help there.

Well, I can safely say, I never even thought of the tiny footprint until I posted it here (and was greeted with the help of two experts).

As for your second problem, I would put up a hijack report on here. Just to see if anything jumps out at people. I like Ad-Aware also, but I use SpyBot Search & Destroy along with it.
Hope this helps.
Patrick.
