Why would com 2 disappear on a working SCCS?

The access to meridian mail failed after the server com port 2 disappeared.

Does an oneknow why this may have happened?

Did the com port disappear from the O/S? If so, then you may have a hardware failure, or it may be loose or removed. Or somebody may have "removed" com 2. Test com 2 to see if it still works.

Did you do an upgrade or reinstall? If so, if the serial cable to MerMail was left plugged in, this has happened to me.

Reseated the card and it worked fine. Well i had to give the VSM service a kick.

Glad it was just that simple. "Plug and Play" can create some nasty surprises, can't it?
