Hi,

I have a Mitac 5024 laptop (circa 1997) with an 850mb hard drive. I recently tried to replace the old drive with a new Fujitsu 3.3 gig, but the Bios wouldn't recognise it. I suspected this problem could related to the "850mb barrier" and so I tried running Disk Manager to overcome it, but Disk manager seems to need a drive already detected before it will do anything. (I only have room for one hard drive).

Question: Do I need to upgrade my Bios in order to get it to recognise the larger hard drive, or is there a less risky option?

Thanks for your time,

Ron

just one question....Why can't you put the 3.3Gig drive in and run the disk manager from the floppy???

Thanks for your reply, Alex.

The instructions with Disk Manager (Go Disk) say "go into Windows first and then reboot" ...and obviously I cant get the 3.2gig running in order to get into Windows. But I think I see what you mean. Are you saying that the DiskManager floppy should boot be into dos, and from there it should recognise the new Hdrive?

Thanks again,

Ron
