I have been using clip tray, which comes with the windows resourse kit,for more than two years.I never had any problem with it until now.I was using it during a session and it abruptly stopped responding. In it's place was a small pop-up window which stated:"Run-Time error '5'/Invalid procedure call.I tried many restores with backed up files, even reinstalled windows without success. All other programs seem to be working correctly.Where does the problem lie?

Visual Basic runtime error?
What OS?
My have to uninstall the Resource Kit and reinstall it.

gargouille,win98se is my operating system. I reinstalled the winrk folder,no help yet.

I keep telling myself that even tho the problem seems to jump up all at once...there has to be an underlying cause.
Sure there were NO changes to any programs recently?
This error comes from a VB application...and a wide range of 3rd party apps use VB (among others) in their implementation.
Not that yours is one, but many systems I troubleshoot are for users that are attracted to "handy" little exe's that do tricky little things for them...usually ending up calling me for help when their system goes flaky. (no offense intended)
Here's a link to M$ download of the VB runtime files...if you can figure out which ones you're using:

still looking

Have you tried booting with a bootlog to see if there's an error message that sticks out? The problem might reveal itself when the system starts up...by erring out in the bootlog.
Might also try looking at Task Manager after the OS is up...to see what all is running.
I'm assuming you're using the clipboard for text...interfacing with what...other Office apps? Any of them use macros?
Unfortunately we're on our own, here, from M$ point of view, they're not supporting 98 anymore.

gargouille ,When i said that I reinstalled i ment that i did it over the existing application. After uninstalling the windows resourse kit and the reinstalling it evereything worked fine. How ever when i tried to replace the text file that i saved from the previous install i received the same message.then i replaced it with the new empty file and it worked again.I believe that there is a line that must indicate the number of files that have been saved and it must match the existing files. This of course is just a guess from one that is learning.

Sometimes a rewrite over the old files works and sometimes it doesn't.

As for the last file you were working on...that's one of those things we file away and come back to again when maybe some further understanding creeps in.

Glad you got it going and enjoy trying to solve other people's problems...helps me forget mine.

The learning's never gonna' stop...with computers the learning curve seems to be a line that goes straight up.
Welcome aboard.

I had a rather calamitous day on the computer but am now getting it sorted out.
