When I save and exit my Quark document, when I go back into my directory, there's SEVERAL copies of the same document, with sequential numbers attached to each (i.e., doc1.xxx, doc2.xxx, doc3.xxx). It's almost like it's saving a new version of my document on each "save". Why?

Check whether you have "auto Backup" turned on. Go to Edit>Preferences>Application.
