I tried to post this in "e-mail issues" forum but got no answers. Hope I'll be luckier here !!!

I have a problem : Since I installed XP pro on my new computer (Athlon XP 1800+ / 512Mo / 60Go), I can surf, receive e-mails but can't send them. I access the web with a modem that works fine (web surfing and fax features works well). My desktop is sometimes linked to my notebook with a crossed Lan cable. That works fine too. But these &#$$£ù*% mails don't want to leave my outbox. I looked at the SMTP adress and port in outlook profiles, it's OK, I tried to ping the SMTP server, it responds. But when I try to send an e-mail, I always have the "10053 Socket error, 0x800CCC0F". It's becomming very boring. If someone experienced the problem or have an idea on how to solve it, it would be great.

Note : I have Kaspersky Personnal Pro Antivirus installed on my desktop but even if I stop it, the error still occurs. Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)

So Outlook won't send.. Try Outlook Express just for testing purposes.. if it sends.. it's Outlook.. if not, well, we'll go from there..

Sorry, I wasn't precise enough : I use outlook express 6.0, not outlook. Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)

You're a plrenty ressources guy Ain't you ????
What if I don't have it ???? Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)

One program you should have is Telnet.
Just fire that up, try to connect to your pop mailbox and see what happens.

I tried what you suggested. I managed to connect to mail SMTP server via telnet on port 25 but, after, my lacks in "telnet talking" stopped me to go further. Did the fact that I could connect - via telnet - to the SMTP server means that there is no problem with my provider and that the bug comes from my config ??? Maybe an idea (?) : Go to Tools, Options, Security and check the settings. Are you encrypting outgoing messages ?

No, I don't encrypt them but do you think I need to do it ??? Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)

Maybe the encrypting and security level server-client is not corresponding ?

I'll have a look this evening and tell you.
Thanx Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)

Do a repair of Outlook Express(Add\remove>choose repair). I'll bet something got hosed in the MAPI dll's. Or if you don't have the latest go to Windows Update and get it.

Thanx to all for your clues.
I finnally found got rid of my problem by an uninstall/reinstall of outlook express. Still don't know why it didn't and now works but the fact is here : I now can send mails. Water is not bad as long as it stays out human body ;-)
