Hello,
In one windows-2000 PC, "avi" file cannot be opened by MS-media-player, error message: cannot play back video stream, no suitable decompressor.
even after I have reinstalled Media-player 7.1 or 9.1, it still doesn't work. How can I find out the true reason to solve this problem?

thanks!
Armstrong HE

I've found that a connection to the 'net first then opening the .avi file will let WMP go find any codecs and decompresser it needs. *.avi and *.mpg don't all seem to be the same as to what plug-ins are needed.

thanks very much for your answer!
but can you tell me which 'net site should I connect before I open that avi file? or I have misunderstood your comment?
thanks in advance!

Shouldn't need to connect to a particular site, just opening an *.avi file on my computer does it. WMP does the work, takes a couple of minutes before the file actually begins to play the first time.
