Hello Folks,

If I am running MS Messenger 6.2 in XP Pro. Why would version 4.7 still be on my PC? I have tried to remove the 4.7 version but I cannot. Also, the 4.7 version is in a different folder than 6.2 so I could just delete the folder but I am sure that there would still be entries in the registry. Any ideas? I tried Microsoft's website.

Thanks, Bill

I think you will find that you have MSN Messenger 6.2 and Windows Messenger 4.2 installed, they are different programs Windows Messenger is part of Windows XP.
You can prevent Windows Messenger from running by setting a policy with Gpedit.msc.

Thanks. You are probably right. The problem is that at times one or the other or both versions try to load into memory at start up. Since 6.2 is a newer version, I figure it makes sense to allow 6.2 to run.

Yes i would do the same, Windows Messenger is aimed more a bussiness as it comes with remote support facilities and other bits n bobs. MSN is the fun IM client so if you want to play games and chat with mates then thats the one for you.
