Why is MsWord so slow when copy/pasting from the web?

I occasionally create word documents to gather together useful bits and pieces I stumble across on web sites. I simply copy and paste the text I want to keep, together with the URL of page in question, into an open word document. This can be anything from interesting looking holiday destinations to PC tips. My question is this.

Why is the paste operation into word sometime excruciatingly slow. I have used TCPView to see if word is making web requests, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If anyone can throw any light on the matter I would be very grateful.

I believe it is mere file size, and Word's autoformat functions. When you copy the stuff form the website, and paste it into Word, Word tends to try to reformat the stuff to work correctly with the current document - or at least to some extent.

The size of the files is the other part. If you try to copy a large portion of a website with a good bit of graphics on it, for instance, it's going to run much slower than copying and pasting pure text.
