Why is Cascade Update greyed when table is linked?

I have referential integrity set to cascade update but when I use an MDE file to link to the tables and view the relationships it has Referential Intergrity checked but Cascade Update unchecked.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Have you tried modifying the primary key? If it updates the foreign key, then it's just a matter of displaying...
