I have started the system recovery procedure for the third time.this time i am letting it go and so far it has been extracting and inflating files 15 hours. This is an HP Pavilion 4445 with the factory supplied disks.I am attempting to install a new HD and am getting quite tired of this operation.I have preformed the same on a Compaq presario and it only took about 2.5 hours.Anyone have a clue to this abnormal behavior.

I have HP Pavilion and I have been told that the hard drives that come with them are tattoed so as to only accept the info on the supplied disks you are using. I suspect that if you are trying to load a non-HP new Hard drive with HP software that it will not be recognised. I think you would have to get conventional MS Windows software. I really don't think your old disks will work. Try sending an e-mail to HP on their see what they say. GL Purdy

Thanks Purd,You were on the right thought but not right on.It seems that when installing a new hard drive it must be as large or larger capacity than the original factory supplied hd.After a few e-mails to HP Support I found this info in the last message they sent.Putting in the proper size worked just fine with the factory disks.
