Why does it sometimes ask me for my password twice?

We have an ASP Classic application that uses ISAPI for authentication. Our users complain that sometimes they are asked for their password twice.

What is causing this problem? How can I fix this?

What does your code look like, and how is your IIS setup on security?

Do you have a logon page? Do you use Windows Authentication?

Is it possible they are getting a domain authentication box before they reach the application and then get the application's authentication box?

So much depends on your internal network and web server config that it is impossible to say what the cause is.
You are going to need to find out how to reproduce the problem to get a clue of the cause. When you do, making note of any differences in the presentation of the logon box might tell a lot as well.
