Why can't my users change their DFS alternate paths?

Hi.
I've got a 5-site WAN. At each site is a Win2Ksp4 server hosting a DFS replica. All workstations are Win2K pro sp4.

I, as the administrator, can go to the DFS tab & select an alternate site with no problem.

My users, not being administrators, cannot. They can go into the DFS tab & check status but if they double-click an alternate path it simply changes all paths to inactive.

I'm sure it has something to do with rights but I've been unable to track it down.

This is a big problem for me because quite a few of my workstations have settled on the WAN node at the end of the absolutely slowest link they could find. :(

Have you configured sites, site links and subnet correctly thoughout the enterprise.

'dfsutil /pktinfo' from the client will show you exactly what the client is getting as far as DFS information. Find dfsutil in the support tools on the W2k Server CD.

Is anyone finding the correct local DFS link replica?

I have sites & subnets configured afaik.

Lots of the workstations find the correct ones but probably 20% of them don't. I'll check the pkt & see what it knows.

thanks!!
