Just took over a 4 man shop and having some problems with exchange server. I can't get into exchange admin. When I hit browse it comes back and say no servers found. When I do it by name It says can't find the server. Also everything worked fine for a while, now they are unable to send mail. Can receive fine, but trying to send, it bounces back after about a day or so. Any suggestions? Thanks for this helpful forum.

You say you just took over for 4 other people? Have you checked all of the settings to see that nothing was tampered with. It sounds like the server is not resolving any names. It could be that the DNS or WINS is down or stopped. Run a ping-a to a known address and see if you get the proper name resolved for the ping.

I know what I know and that's all I know.

I meant there is a total of 4 users. I did the ping -a 216.77.188.40 and it brought back 4 replys with the same IP no name.

If it did not bring back a name then there is something wrong with the name resolution. It will continue to ping only because you gave it the address. Ping by name only; i.e. or
Do you use a DNS or WINS server?

What OS are you running?

The reason you cannot send email out is because the server needs to resolve the names of the domains it needs to send mail to. I would check to see if the server is registering itself with the local name resolver--dns or wins.

I know what I know and that's all I know.
