Why BTC cd R/W drive disappearing under Win2000 Pro

I have this BTC cdrom R/W drive that the system knows one
moment, and it is not there the next. I have to do a view
refresh to see it appear under My Computer. Then, everything works ok until the next time. I have to repeat the refresh, again. I have been looking for Win 2000 driver for the cdrom writer without success. Thanks for
any suggestions.

Check and see if it is running in "compatibility mode"

Control panel > System > Performance

If it is, you may have a controller driver problem check out MS Knowledgebase aticle Q130179

I couldn't find a driver either, but it was my controller that was the problem anyways.

if you only have one hard drive in your system try the cd drive as slave on the same IDE cable. that would clear the secondary controller from the equation If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out
