Hi,
older Compaq and IBM servers like the ProLiant ML350 are very cheap at the moment and i want to buy one with a Pentium III processor.
Would these old servers work with FreeBSD?
I´ve searched google and tried the Compaq site, but couldn´t find infos about that. Also the FreeBSD hardware list doesn´t help very much.
Anybody here who has an old server running with freeBSD and using the server as a home internet server?
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a Proliant at home, but I set them up all the time, and although not very common, I have successfully set up FreeBSD on them. There are generally no hitches when installing, since FreeBSD has built in support for the SCSI controllers (usually) and the SmartRAID RAID controllers. Seems like a pretty heavy duty solution for home! I currently use FreeBSD as a firewall/NAT server for home and it works great.
