Call me paranoid, but some things around here lead me to believe that BCC messages are flying all over the place.

Any way to identify who the BCC recipients are in a message that you receive? Methods or purchasable products earn you a quick star and my gratitude.

This is in an Outlook 2k environment

Short answer: No

Long answer: Nope

Sorry, that's what BCC is for, to prevent anyone else from knowing who is receiving the message.

I know - blind is blind is blind... but I would still bet that there is a way

Howdy jymm:

Not for the recipient there isn't.. However, if sent messages are being saved, then you can go to each system and check those... IF you can log onto their account.. which I doubt unless you are the system admin and have an admin password.. which I doubt you do !!

actually I do have the admin pwd, but it (interestingly enough) is my boss who wanted this as she feels that one of the other people in the department (who sits on top of the server pretty much) is bcc all around her to other people. No joy in mudville I guess - she is SOL like I told her.

Yes, what BCC essentially does is separate the email into individual emails sending them one at a time to each recipient.

As Murray pointed out, the only place that tracks BCC is the email program that sent it (unless the records were deleted). I'm not too familiar with digging around on the exchange server, but that might be the ONLY other place this information would be stored.

Good Luck!

have you thought about getting close with the mail server admin? or is this intranet mail only, useing exchange?

if its an admin that knows what he's doing, he could let you in on good stuff. our admin is a friend of mine and no one that looks at either of us funny is safe. root around, there are indeed email tracts for BCC'c.

don't get me wrong we don't take advantage of thing we shouldn't. ;-) "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

interNETTech - and there is the problem. The person doing the bcc and causing all of the problems IS the exchange admin - just a bit too full of hisself/herself for me and the rest of the company - so I get to be the detective and find out how much is hidden and how much is being snooped - sigh -

Jymm,

Just read this thread out of the archives.
If you haven't solved it yet (as it was 12 months ago!), I also had a similar issue with my line manager BCCing to the director certain items...
I created a small VB app which I installed on his local machine and checked for Outlook being open. If it was, it would search his sent items folder looking for any E-mails sent since the previous search where anyone had been BCC'd and I was on the recipient list.
If it found any, it saved the information to the server (although you could get it to e-mail you again!) so that I could check.

Very cloak and dagger... but so was my line manager!!!

Warlocks.

PS: Unfortunately I have since left that position and moved on so I no longer have the App...
