when placing pictures on a document i need to create links rather then embed. when i use the get picture the image is wonderful and prints to my laser printer wonderful but I dont think it is linking but rather embedding the image. when i use the insert object it seems to create a link but the image is blurry and prints terrible on my laser printer. My final destination is to an imagesetter i am learning . any advise??

Depending on what KIND of image you are linking, it may come out like crap on a laser printer. I have had countless images look like garbage on the laserjet, but when they are sent to print they are fine.
I would say check with the folks who are printing it just to be sure, but i'd say that you're fine based on you placing the image and having it look good. Link it, send it and print it! hehe

Just get picture...
It may look like garbage on screen and on laserjet, but when it's sent to print? It comes out nice. It took me a few times to get over the heebie jeebies, but found that as long as i am sure the integrity of the photo is good (quality) even if it looks bad in quark, it'll come out.

Yes it will... you'll have a massive document.
Embedding photos will make it look good on your laser, it SHOULD look fine when sending to the printer. I've just built some really big catalogs and embeding the photos would make working with the document impossible. So i HDA to finf out that i could link the photos and that they really would print out very nicely at the printers even tho they didn't come out well on my laser.
Just check the blueline or proof when you get it back in either case.
To be honest, your onscreen look and your laserjet look dont really give an acurate representation of what it's going to look like at the printers. (i had to find that out the hard way.)

faq260-3087 discusses this in detail. If you do 'Get Picture', you are linking. Depending on your settings, the preview Quark creates might be of a high quality (and large size), so if it's a problem, change your settings (see the FAQ). But please, never ever embed images in Quark. Your printer will curse you for it!
