Hi,

I have a small network..three W2K pro and one W2K Svr, which is connected to cable modem.

I want to get a router to improve security,

Does anyone could advise me some good and affordable routers for my home network (approx $75) - and any sites related to routers (example: how to set up a router, comparison of routers,etc..)

also, what is the difference between routers and broadband routers?

Thanks in advance,
kev

You will want a cable router to go between your modem and the rest of your home network. If you are concerned about security, make sure the router you purchase has the capability to filter ip ports, and also the ability to turn on and off the NAT and DHCP capability. I would want the ability to configure the static routes as well. Some of the newer ones also are capable of accepting VPN connections. In any case, install a good firewall program as well.

I have a similar network setup and I have been using the Linksys cable/dsl router for several years and it works great. You can find them almost anywhere for around $50.00. I use the same router at home even though I only have one computer, I like having the security and it automatically reconnects the dsl server when it drops. If you are running win2k server you don't need to worry about a vpn router the server has vpn built in, just follow the instructions on the Linksys website for setting up the router to accept a vpn connection securely.
