Which one you think could be my new plataform and why, now that Nortel is almost dead?

a) Avaya
b) Mitel
c) Cisco
d) Microsoft Communicator
e) Especify one

I'd definitely change right now, before you find out that one of those manufacturers may have bought Nortel and abandoned there own product - the one you just changed to.

Maybe someone will buy it and realize they charge to much and go for lower prices and higher volume...

I prefer private equity company that has lots of cash and will continue Nortel platform.

Right now Im trying with the Mitel plataform, they have a huge portafolio like Nortel.

There will still be plenty of Nortel gear to work on for a few years.

Have you looked into NEC's product line? They have been around for over 100 years and have shown no sign of leaving.

opinion only.. based on 42 years in the swithroom

i've programed all the listed suppliers except avaya, which is almost a large key system. nortel enterprise systems will be picked up, i'm not suggesting any changes until after that happens.

i am glad it was not simmons, they destroyed ROLM, one of the most robust early digital boxes on the market. very easy to learn and program, a little slower to build sets on via scripts but 10 times better the the rolm/simmons 9751/9007. mitels a good platform, nec never got one right, but my nec certification was way back in the 2400 img days.
you still have to build a restricted trunk group to assign phones to instead of building deny tables against sets.. in todays market, you should never force a cust to have more then one trunk group or acod.

i was hoping for a nortel cisco marriage but two bad management teams do not usually combine to one good team.. ie kmart and sears(now you can get kmart quality at sears prices). best thing to do now (iao) is to wait for the ecomony to botton, then see what floats to the top. capital investment right would be a mistake

Nortel Brand in PBX will not disappear who ever buys it should continue supporting the product and it is still customers decision if they want to migrate to whoever the buyer is or they want to upgrade their existing nortel platform and if they want new owner cant do anything really but to continue and improve the nortel platform, if they dont there are plenty of other platforms outside

I do not believe that anyone is going to change soon because companies want to protect their investments.

Nortel main advantage is for call centers - Symposium reporting. Now imagine that call center which invested e.g 500.000 USD into Nortel PBX is going to change. There must be a reason for that.

I worked few years for VoIP company who helped customers to switch from traditional PBX and it was really painfull process. Switching PBX in enterprise is not just changing few boxes, it is about training people, reporting issues, solving issues, it takes a time of a lot employees and this time is also money.

And I can tell you whatever the benefits are (and VoIP have a lot benefits) basically there is no demand. It could change in years but currently this is situation on market.
