I have an access db with odbc linked tables to the sql desktop engine included with office 2k2; but get error messages when trying to connect from certain computers. What drivers need to be installed on the client computer to connect to msde?

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated also.
Leo

Here's the error message I receive:

Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen (CreateFile()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 6
[Microsoft][ODBC Server Driver][Named Pipes]Specified SQL server not found.

This may or maynot be the answer, but the SQL Server Destop Engine, doesn't install as a part of the normal installation. So you may need to do an install from the OfficeCD to get what you need. The Setup file is located in the CD's \MSDE2000 folder.

I am looking at the msde whitepaper and it says that I need to install mdac 2.6, but on microsoft site mdac 2.6 says that it does not install desktop database drivers.

heres the quote from mdac
MDAC 2.6 SP2 Refresh does not include Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider, the Desktop Database Drivers ODBC Driver, or the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver. See Knowledge Base article Q271908 for more information.

If it makes any difference, here's the connect string I am using...
ODBC;DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=COMPOOTER\MYINST;UID=sa;DATABASE=mydb;PWD=mypw;

I hope someone can shed just a little light onto this subject.
All I want to do is ensure that my msaccess clients can connect to sql desktop engine properly.

Thanks Much in advance,
Leo
