Where in the dickens do they hide the Most Recently Used files (the ones that show under File menu)? I swear, I've thoroughly searched the Registry (finding Access and Excel's with no problem).

And before someone gives the rocket science answer of "why don't you just click File?", it is so that I can tweak the list occasionally. Its maxiumum length of 9 entries is pathetically short, so an occasionally housecleaning at least extends the life of the 9 :) (Way to go, Gates!)

Well. Good question.

It looks like it is no longer saved in the registry as regular text and only in binary format:

Settings in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word
The settings that you may need to examine during troubleshooting are located in this key. The Data key and the Options key are the most frequently changed areas.
Data Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

This key contains binary information for most recently used (MRU) lists, including the MRU file list and the MRU address book list. It also contains other information such as Track Changes settings and Edit settings.

That's all from:

Looks like they don't want us editing that anymore. Hm.

Thanks for looking at this. Yes, I found the files buried in there.

Way to go, Microsoft. Get a clue. :)
