In December 1999 Exchange 5.5 was installed on a server running NT4.0 sp4
Exhange was backed up via Veritas Backup exec every night.

After a nasty hardware failure, a full reinstall was needed, but no documentation could be found in reference to the The organization and site names, or the service pack level of Exchange 5.5

After 14hrs and a lot of tries reinstalling Exchange with various org and site names, it just aint happening :(

I have the old Dsadata, Dxadata, Imcdata, Mdbdata, Mtadata etc directories.

So my question is, where would this information be embedded?

Any help would be great.

I need the mailboxes only, I can live without public folders etc, and the Org and site name can change, but if they do how do I restore?

can you still access the old registry or restore it from a backup? If so, go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters , and check the values for Enterprise and Site.

Thanks for the reply brontosaurus, but alas.... the old registry is a thing of the past, and no backup on tape.

I am still looking, but have gone back 14 months, it appears because the site uses backupexec v7.x, there is no chechbox for backup registry, so they didnt.

Thanks Yizhar, found it.
Turned out the donkey who set it up the 1st time had a typo in the org name.

Got the server rebuilt and the mail restored. A lot of mucking around due to service pack levels both Exchange and NT4.0.

Now my internet service is not there, but it should only be a config issue.

Thanks again.
