Where do the old Logs go?

I have set my IIS server up to create a new log every week but occasionally i need to look at logs from the previous week or even 2 weeks ago.

when IIS creates a new log does it completely erase the old log or does it put it somewhere else? It would seem strange that a log is created with the filename exyymmww.log but at the same time IIS feels compelled to completely erase the old log when it isn't having to write over the file but instead creates a new file with a different filename.

Are my files being archived somewhere or have i lost them forever? If I have been losing then forever is it possible to set it up so that IIS archives the last 4 logs for example.

I am using both IIS 5.1 (Development) and IIS 6.0 (Live).

Thanks in advance,

Chris Gilbert

IIS Stores its log in

System32 > LogFiles > W3SVC1

I've looked there but there's no logs. In IIS it is set to save the logs to a folder where I am able to download them via FTP but last months logs seem to have disappeared from both System32 > LogFiles > W3SVC1 and the FTP Folder.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the active log format list to see if the log file is actually there to be writing??

Also maybe check your permissions on the folder that you want to write the log files to and make sure it has the same permissions as the W3SVC1 folder I mentioned earlier....

The problem could be that IIS does not have permissions to write to your specified folder where as it does to the W3SVC1 folder....

Hope this helps
