where can I get some real life example tutorials for excel

Well here!! 
Take a look at the FAQs, they are a great place to start. Also, most of the questions in here are real life examples, and you can read through the various answers as they build towards a final solution. One of the best things about the group is that you will often get different answers on waysd to do the same thing, and very often those different ways of the doing this one thing stay with you and you find other uses for each of them individually.
A lot of the questions start with a real life question, sometimes get just an answer, but sometimes get an answer and explanation, and where asked for, ususally a dteailed explanation of the steps involved.
All material on the site is searchable, so try hitting various keywords, or just trawl through the questions page by page till you find something of interest. I have never found a better medium for learning than a forum, such as this or the MS groups etc. People should have to pay for this much good stuff
