When I turn off my pc it rebooths back on 1

intel pentuim iv, every time I turn off the pc it booths back on. I have to turn off the power on the pc in order to turn off mt pc...I need help anyone...........

It can be caused by quite a few things, including an open GL screen saver. Adaptec software and the list goes on.
Go into msconfig and shut off any thing that is installed as extra software and see if the problem goes away.Shut off screen saver as well.You could if it works properly start turning stuff back on 1 at a time until the problem reoccurs and then you will know which is the culprit.

My niece was having the same problem (she is not very computer savy). I had worked on her computer and I had used the Start menu to select Shutdown and Restart to restart it after loadeding some software. The "shutdown" option had always been selected before, so she was used to just selecting "Okay" for the Shut Down Menu and the computer would shutdown; but, since I had changed the Shutdown Menu" to "Restart", eveytime she selected "Okay' it would restart and not shutdown. she felt pretty silly when I explained to her what was happening. Ha. sometimes it is the simple things that cause us the most grief.

I have also seen this caused by modem, power supply or motherboard. I'd pull the modem and see if it shuts down correctly. If that doesn't do it, try a power supply if you have another system handy to pull one from. I'd also consider stripping the system down to core components to make sure you don't have any hardware causing the issue.
