Simply put, when i try to execute anything assoicated with windows explorer, XP just stalls then the screen flashes off for a split second and then back to the original configuration. Without any window appearing.

when it first happened there was an error message, then i accidentally said not to display the error message again and now idont see it. i wish i could see it so i could tell what the hell was going on, but i cant.

recap: click on any item on the desktop and nothing happens. as a matter of fact, i try to click anything other than an application and nothing happens. explorer, folders, etc...

please help.

i even tried restoring to a previous point, reinstalling xp, etc... chkdsk.. nothing has worked. i cant run virus software because of the problem too.

im screwed.

help!!!!

What kind of system do you have?

- CPU (make/model/speed)
- motherboard (make/model)
- video card
- other relevant specs you can think of

Chances are there is some kind of driver conflict. Reinstalling XP only ensures that major system components/files are present. It does not fix the registry or other 3rd party software installations.

Also, is this XP Home or Pro? ~cdogg
