I have a view retreiving data from 2 tables . In CR 7 when i select from the view , if i want to display only a paricular row or couple of rows it fetches the same. But it allocates space before and after the row. Due to which i am having alignment problems.

For ex My dept table contains detials regd depts 10,20,30,40. I just want to display only 30 depts details. It displays 40 dept's details along with some blank space afterthe column and some blank space before the column.Due to which my whole alignment changes?

Scott works in deptno 30.
It will fetch the above row but while displaying it will leave space for all the four rows , due to which my alignment is getting affected ? how do i solve this problem

Thanking you

I may not understand your problem well, some examples would help.

If you explicitly state (in the record selection criteria) to retrieve only columns which have 30 in a column, that's what Crystal will do.

If it's a char (string) field, and has padded spaces, then 30 isn't correct, you'll need to ltrim() and rtrim() the field to match "30".

If I haven't helped, post some specifics, such as the record selection criteria and the type of columns (fields).

No its not the answer what i was looking for . Ok if i have 10 rows in the table and i try to select one based on some criteria it gets selected but at the top and bottom space is padded automatically i don't know why. The output in the report appears as follows (first some blank space and again later some blank space)

Scott works in accounting department 30.

When i queried the database i found that this row appears in the middle of the table. Why is this blank space getting padded to the output ? can anyone help me

Thanking you

Have you suppressed all but the detail section?

It sounds like you have blank areas on the report, or your means for suppressing is to suppress the output of the field without suppressing blank section.

Try just placing one field in the report (no text), then use the Record Selection criteria:

using the pull down menu Report->Edit Selection Formula->Record

Find your database field and double click it, then put in = 30 after it

It will look like:

{MyTable.Myfield} = 30
