A client has an XP Excel file that has an .xlw extension instead of an .xls extension. What is an Excel Workspace file and how is it different from a regular workbook file?

Also, in the xlw file, if you enter a date like 12/25/03 it converts it to a formula =12/25/02. Is this a bug, or is there a work-a-round.

For now, I converted it to an .xls file and it seems to be working OK. Am I missing anything here?

Thanks!

Have a great day!

"xlw" workspace excel file can be either information on what workbooks to be opened and their windows, (no file contents, excel 5 or above, file>save workspace) or excel 4 workspace containing excel sheets (similar to excel workbook, but in old format, file>save as>excel 4 workbook).

To stop conversion date=>formula untick 'transition formula entry' box (tools>options, and transition tab, option for 1-2-3 users).
