I would like some ideas on recovery software, such as Drive Image, Go Back, Ghost and so on.Which do you use and problems encountered,if any. Kelly

I am not sure how to help you.

My own experience:

Under Win9x GoBack was a lifesaver. Under Windows XP it is a serious drag on your system. I ended up voting to use native System Restore and Driver rollback features of XP. I had all the GoBack updates, it just in my opinion is just creates a too darn slow situation under XP.

I use Ghost, Drive Image and Acronis tools regularly in my practice. Be absolutely certain you are up to date with all of them. For a stand-alone machine where imaging installations are not the issue, I vote at the moment for Drive Image 7 or the equivalent from Acronis for using the Shadow Copy Service under XP. For drive imaging rollouts, I vote Ghost.

You can use NTBACKUP under Pro for bare metal restorations, and it is free with the OS.

Linney do you use the ASR ? Does it restore to same as?
I have been using Ghost ,but for some reason all my resent ghost files are corrupted, which leaves me hung out to dry ( a nice way of saying screwed)I just now made a new ghost restore and the image files were buggered. I have never tryed Drive image.Kelly

For Ghost under XP you really have to keep up with updates and the newer versions.

Your description of problems sounds exactly like trying to use Ghost 2002 without any updates or hotfixes.

Yes, I agree with bcastner. It sounds like you do not have an updated Ghost version. Even if you have Ghost 2003, you need to make sure you have all the latest updates using Symantec's liveupdate feature. There was a Ghost release shortly after WinXP SP1 came out that fixed some major problems.

DriveImage isn't a bad app to try either. It's interface isn't quite as smooth as Ghost's, but there are just as many features if not more.

willdwilly.

ASR being a disaster type recovery option doesn't get used that often. All I can say is that on the few occasions I have used it I had no problems with it.

Thanks ,guys, as allways you are the best. Kelly
