What would happen if I swapped a PII 300Hz for a Celeron 433Hz ?

I have an Acer it currently has a 300Hz PII according to the official site this is the highest this board can go. But in there own specs it says you can get a 333Hz so maybe it can really take something with more HZ'z.

But what would happen if I took swap the cpu's?

Both cpu are running 66 buses(?).
What would happen possibly, kill the motherboard, power supply, etc...

I can not find any identifying marks on the motherboard. I do believe it what was called and LX form. It has a riser card PCI cards are pulled into.

So what do you think possible Yes NO???

you might be better off to stay with the p2 the cel is unlikely to have little if any L2 cache but also the cel is very clockable at a recent tech class a number of students were able get a 350mhz celeron to run at 500mhz not to keen on over clocking myself

Working with P2 and P3 slot type cpu's, im pretty sure that you can go ahead and try it. I dont think it will harm anything, it will just boot or not boot up.
I would first make sure i had the latest bios installed on the mobo before doing anything.
Often the mobo will take a faster cpu and its not mentioned at the mfgr website.
I have heard and seen those celeron 300's are very overclockable, but a P2 is far superior to a celeron, i dont see you getting any real benefit, better you get another P2 cpu and try that instead.
You likely wont cause any damage and these items can be replaced cheaply these days.

gargoyle47,

The Celeron would probably end up only running at 333 but maybe to 433 with a bios update. If so, then the mobo w/LX would probably max out at 500. None of which are worth the time or effort.

What motherboard do you have?

As long as both are slot processors, then there shouldn't be any issue, except for what the others mentioned. Worth a shot, although I doubt you'll notice much improvement overall.
