I am just beginning to investigate studying for the CCNA. I notice there is a brand new 6th ed Sybex study guide. Any recommendations when purchasing a book? 640-802 CCNA OR
640-801 CCNA guide?

Todd Lammle's book is the best.

If you get the 640-801 CCNA guide you only have until 11-7-2007 to take that version of the CCNA exam - it is being retired :-(

The 640-802 CCNA just started 8-1-2007 and should be around for the next 2-3 years :)

To study for the CCNA -
1) Get 2 books with one being the Sybex CCNA Study Guide (6th edition) by Todd L. The other should be a Cisco Press book .

2) DO TONS OF HANDS ON LABS - Set up a hands on lab with 3 routers and 2 switches should do you well and they will be a foundation for a CCNP lab if you plan to go further. Check eBay for GREAT prices on older Cisco routers and switches that will work for you.

3) get a good router sim for when you can not get to the router lab - this DOES NOT REPLACE THE NEED FOR A HANDS ON LAB!

4) Check out the many, many links that members here have listed for FREE videos, study guides and other things that will help you study.

5) Use a good test software (most of the books come with them) and test where you are in your studies - most will tell you what areas you need to spend more time on.

Hope this helps!
